I like the way Christian thinks – creating a beauty product and a weapon. You can never skip on self-defence in this day and age.

It’s the 7th January 2019 and I’m going to say what everyone else says… where the hell did 2018 go? Whether you conquered all in the last year or it was abysmal January is always a time to reset, rebalance and reassess your life. I’d like to inform you that my new years resolution no.1 of becoming a morning person is going swimmingly as I’ve just surfaced at midday due to a noisy Italian neighbour that likes to shout until 3am. If there’s one thing I’ve learnt about running my own business for two years it’s that ‘these things happen’ – not everything is going to go according to plan it’s how you deal with it that counts. That said I’ve situated myself in my Soho hangout where I know the caffeine is on tap.

For me, everything changed in the last year. I took chances that really paid off and that’s one lesson I’m going to be taking into 2019. It’s drummed into us to save, save, save for that house, that mortgage, that life that society tells us we all should be living. Well I did that, then I realised how it was actually smarter to invest. I don’t just mean in banker w*nker stuff that makes no sense to anyone, but in your career. It can be painful, it can be scary but it can be so worthwhile, especially if you get to do a job you love for the rest of your life. Ask a successful person how many times they failed and they will tell you of thousands, ask an unsuccessful person and they will tell you they never tried.
However far I come though I still always feel like I’m winging it.

Straight out of university I worked in an office with a load of investment bankers, aka middle aged men in suits. It was my first experience working in an office environment and for the first time I started to see the prejudism against women in the workplace. Young women. I always say that turning thirsty last year was the best thing because for the first time people started to take me seriously. One day, said middle aged man in suit stood up in front of a room of investors and started talking about digital marketing. He acted like he was important, he looked like he knew the business and he spoke with such conviction but utter bullshit was coming out of his mouth. He didn’t have a clue about the digital generation, social media or marketing and as I looked around the room everyone was buying the bullshit. I felt like giving him a standing ovation for his acting abilities. The longer I worked in this world the more I realised just how many people in suits were blagging their way through life and props to them – they were getting places.

I know so many people find going into business daunting but the one thing that job taught me was that there were mediocre people out there blagging their way through life because they just believed they could. So l left that job vowing to never work in an office again (I’d quite honestly prefer to shovel elephant shit up in Regent Park Zoo) with the mindset that if they can I can. If you take anything away from this blog post – let it be that.

I’m changing things up this year and have totally fallen back in love with the blog. I wanted to share my thoughts on a weekly basis of not only what’s going on in my head but also what I’m loving in the world of beauty and fashion. Much to some peoples dismay women can do both – talk business and beauty. In fact beauty in the world of business can be a very powerful thing – wearing a red lipstick in a room fall of business men can throw them right off.

With that said I wanted to talk about a new make up drop that landed in my PO Box recently. I feel like if there was a brand that knew how to make women feel powerful it’s Christian Louboutin. Renowned for their striking red soles Louboutin has ventured into the world of beauty.

As a teen I used to always see a red sole and have this longing to one day own a pair. A decade ago I wanted the iconic platform Louboutins, nowadays a classic court with a beautiful red sole would be right up my street. So when I had a play around with the products I realised that there was something in the collection for every type of woman.

For me the Silky Satin Lip Colour (Loubeach) is what I gravitate towards. It’s my perfect peachy nude – subtle soft with a matifying cream texture that just glides on. Let’s also just give an ‘amen’ to the packaging. I like the way Christian thinks – creating a beauty product and a weapon. You can never skip on self-defence in this day and age. I can also confirm you can get these through airport security – tried and tested.

The eyeshadows are liquid…and completely not anything like you would imagine. I’ve never really been one for a liquid eyeshadow, they seem complicated and most crease in my lid. Louboutin has somehow mastered the product and as you apply the liquid it turns almost into a powder that you can blend effortlessly. With an array of colours this collection is perfect for those who love a cateye or a dark to light shading like I do. Another favourite – Morganite is beautiful for everyday and on it’s own – it creates a subtle shimmer that lasts all day and doesn’t move, really brightening and opening the eyes.

The most recent drop is the gold collection featuring a gold mascara – something I’ve not seen another high-end beauty brand do. Gold mascara is slightly out of my comfort zone but nonetheless I’m excited to try as I think it could create I really beautiful look paired with the nude lipstick and gold gloss over the top. I will be trying this out on my Youtube channel in the near future so keep an eye out!
