A couple of years ago the word tweed would have made me run a mile in the opposite direction. Now, I hear tweed and think Chanel, classic and oh so designer-esque. Tweed made a comeback in a big way and obviously I started to pick up tweed in every single form and colour in true shopaholic style.
Let’s face it an ‘oversized sparkly tweed dress’ doesn’t sound too great on paper. However bring those words to life and somehow this dress has me feeling all gooey inside, it’s literally my idea of fashion candy.
It’s all in the details – like icing on the top of the cake accessories will make or break an outfit. Whether you go overboard or minimal it’s a deal breaker if you get it wrong. I have a few rules which I stick by…
Pick a metal – gold, silver, rose gold? I usually will pick my bag first and incorporate whatever metal is highlighted in the bag. Here, however the dress is so overpowering with gold sparkle running through it I paired my jewellery to match.
If the clothes are overpowering keep the shoes and the bag minimal. Think about the eyes being drawn to one focal point. When there are too many focal points it ruins the picture and confuses the eye.
Silhouette – I always shop silhouette, it’s the most important part for me which many people overlook. Firstly know what silhouettes work for you – in this instances the over-the-knee boots counteracted the oversized dress to weigh out the silhouette – my little legs would have been drowned otherwise. Use accessories to equal the proportions.
