HOW TO PICK THE PERFECT WINTER COAT

Yes, I am a woman with many coats in my closet! I like them in all shapes, colours, sizes so there’s one to fit any occasion. However out of the many coats I do have I always find myself honing in on one time and time again as a fail safe option. Year after year that fail safe option is always coincidently from Superdry. You may remember my grey jacket I refer to as my flying jacket because it’s the softest, comfiest, warm but smart looking coat I’ve ever worn.

Most of all their clothes are made incredibly well, so you know if you’re purchasing from Superdry you’re going to get a good quality coat. They don’t just think about fashion but the warmth and wearability of a style.

So this year I picked up a military style coat. I’d had my eye on this style for a while but just never found one that I loved. There was one in Zara last year but the warmth just wasn’t in it. So when I saw this one I jumped at the chance! The gold buttons give it that expensive feel – I always think extra detail on clothes make them look more expensive than they actually are.

And the colour – it’s states black on the site but could almost be a really dark navy – making it that perfect in-between shade to pair with either black or blue jeans. The pop of red on the collar is my favourite part giving the whole jacket a bit of edginess, it also optional and hidden if you wear the collar down.

Firstly I make sure it’s a style I can wear in any scenario. Whether it’s jeans and a tee or a smart evening outfit I make sure I can see myself wearing it on any of these occasions. If I’m going to invest this is vital! The colour is usually somewhat neutral in order for me to wear it with multiple outfits. The style has to be classic and not on trend. Trends come and go but if you want to wear a coat year after year a classic piece will last the time. Warmth – this jacket is by no means a winter bomber with padding that will see you through a snow storm! However for this type of coat the quality of the material is thick so it not only falls really nicely and doesn’t crease but it’s warm too. I particularly opt for these styles as it keeps me the perfect temperature whilst running between meetings or shopping. There is also plenty of room for a cardigan or a chunky knit underneath. Note – I usually size down in Superdry!
