GOLD DARKSTAR

– KICK-ASS AT FASHION WEEK –

It’s my favourite time of year when the last of Summer slowly turns into crisp Autumn Days. The smell of the falling leaves and a warm ice creeps into the air making you reach for your woolies once again. Not only that but Autumn also means fashion week!

I remember my first fashion week about four years ago as a fashion journalist and approximately 50 shows, I wasn’t prepared for the reality as I stepped out the first day in skyscraper heels. From Fyodor Golans underground dungeon to Daks at the Royal Opera House you needed the pace of a sprinter and the stamina of a long distance runner to make it to each show – now you know why the trainer trend was so strong!

My favourite thing about fashion week is not only the clothes walking down the catwalk but the street style as well. It’s where fashionistas are at their most creative, stepping outside their comfort zones and trying to standout in a very fashionable crowd.

Bloggers who used to parade round Somerset House taking pictures are now quite often seated front row, recognised for their multitude of skills. I remember throwing the word around once in line for a show and the term ‘blogger’ was almost ridiculed, but now I understand why. In the words of Alexa Chung ‘I must admit I felt very threatened by the blogging community when they first appeared on the scene, because suddenly they were sitting front row at fashion week as a high-brow IT girl. I think people were really scared of them because they had so much power suddenly and so quickly.’

The successful bloggers and the rising names are there for a reason and that’s why I love this industry. They are photographers, journalists, stylists, creative directors, editors all under the one term… blogger. It’s the ones that excel in all these areas that are rising to the top of their game and that in itself is a talent. If you can dance, sing and act you’re a triple threat and classed as naturally talented. If you’re a successful blogger the title is majorly overlooked as to many you’re just taking pictures of yourself – how hard can that be right?

So this fashion week to all my fellow bloggers out there I just wanted to say – go kick ass! Show the world what the word BLOGGER actually means.
